COMMENTS: running for the human race
I remember when I went to the beach with you once and we went bike riding with your brother. You turned bright red. I was seriously worried that you were going to die or something. I think you ended up calling your mom to drive us back. So get in shape, girl!

I remember that, though I'm pretty sure we didn't actually call my mom. Did we? That would be so sad. I'd had my bike in first gear the entire time because I forgot that it was a 10-speed. Typical. I still get bright red, though, and I think I always will -- I have some kind of sweat gland deficiency.

Yes, you did call me. I came in the car to pick you up. You always had trouble sweating so you became overheated very quickly and turned red. It was a good thing that you called to have me pick you up; you could have had heat-stroke. Also, you were not used to riding a bike; it had been a while. So take it slow and don't overdo it. Stay hydrated.

Ha ha, Beth, your Mom totally busted you! You poor little red girl.

Oh, man.

Burned, Beth! And I bet you do flail your arms about...because even when you jog to catch the Subway, you do that. You are the definition of "running like a girl".

Don't listen to these naysayers... You can do it! Who cares if you're bright red and flailing if you make it all the way around.
My father's attitude was always that he was doing a much-needed public service when he ran-- after all, someone's got to be the one that makes everyone else at the track feel good about themselves.

I have seen Beth run like a lunatic, flailing her arms and bobbing back and forth, and I have also seen Beth jog, and I can vouch for the fact that she jogs like a normal person. Having seen this, I now theorize that the lunatic thing might only happen when she's wearing a certain kind of shoe. Or it might just reflect that she pays more attention to her body while jogging. Either way, it's interesting.
